But wait, there's more…

A Gate at the Stairs by Lorrie Moore
September
It’s been 15 years since Moore’s last novel, Who Will Run the Frog Hospital?, and to say that people have high expectations for A Gate at the Stairs (Knopf, $25) is like saying Chinese Democracy attracted blog interest. Moore will be in town November 7 for a reading at the Chicago Humanities Festival. Visit chfestival.org.
The North Georgia Gazette
September
We’ve been singing the praises of Green Lantern Press long past the point of hoarseness, and we’re guessing with this release, there will be some new members of the chorus. The Chicago press is reprinting an edition of The North Georgia Gazette ($30), a newspaper written and produced by English sailors in 1819. Another reason to be intrigued: Printmaking ace Nick Butcher of Sonnenzimmer has also made a limited-edition cover.
Bright-Sided by Barbara Ehrenreich
October
Ehrenreich’s Nickel and Dimed and Bait and Switch stirred up controversy and praise in equal portion for the way they addressed class divisions in America. In her new book, Bright-Sided (Metropolitan, $23), Ehrenreich takes on the pop psychology and self-help mania that has made America a nation intent on being (falsely) upbeat and positive.
