Davlantes feels ‘very blessed’ on the mommy beat

Posted in Robert Feder | Chicago Media blog by Robert Feder on Dec 13, 2011 at 7:00am

Anna Davlantes and Gabriella

Fox Chicago news anchor Anna Davlantes won’t be back on Good Day Chicago until February. But just because she’s on maternity leave after the birth of her first child doesn’t mean she’s out of the public eye.

In addition to posting photos and brief messages on Facebook and Twitter, Davlantes shared her joy in the Christmas 2011 newsletter of Chicago’s Greek Media Club, of which she is a co-founder.

“She was anxious to come into this world,” the new mother said of Gabriella Britton Davlantes Gamperl, born November 26 to Davlantes and husband David Gamperl. “We feel very blessed. She’s healthy and happy as can be, and she’s been gaining a lot of weight, a half pound in less than two weeks since she was born.”

Reporting that the baby has “thick Greek black hair” and “never sleeps for more than four hours,” Davlantes told the club that she has little time for anything else. “Due to my job, I’m usually one of the most informed people around, but I can’t really tell you much of anything happening right now,“ she said, adding: “Right now it’s all about her.”

“It felt like, for the first 10 hours of her life, I kept staring at her and might have scarcely taken my eyes off of her,” Davlantes said. “I now empathize entirely with the notion that life truly is a miracle. The whole process was wonderful. David and I used an app to determine contractions. It got to the point where the app told us the contractions were too close together and we should be at the hospital right then. Funny but we were already on the way when we got that notice. When we got there, they took us out of triage and directly into the delivery room.”

The couple plans a baptism for Gabriella sometime after the holidays.

Asked whether her daughter might have a future in the television business, Davlantes said: “With me being a journalist, and David — as a businessman — quite the conversationalist, there’s always that chance.”

Who the hell cares? It's not like Anna Davlantes is the first women to ever give birth to a baby. Can't imagine, outside Anna's circle of friends and family, that anyone really cares about her having a baby.

Another self-absorbed "look at me" news anchor (a'la Robin Robinson) who holds a much higher opinion of herself than those around her. Yikes! Amazing what makeup can cover up at times - ain't it??

Christ, you people are bitter and cold. Congrats to Anna and family.

As the "Church Lady" would say, "Isn't that special."

It truly is shocking how plain and ordinary she looks without her "on air" face- like a completely different person! Gotta agree with first post- nobody really cares about this...
By youkidsstayoffamylawn (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 10:11 am
haha...the journalist shines when she looks at the camera and asserts "whaddya gonna do now".

Another local television person with an over inflated sense of self has successfully fulfilled her biological imperative and reproduced. And this is news- why?
By Truthscreamer (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 10:35 am
WOW - such harsh criticisms here... Wait a minute - IT'S ALL DESERVED!!! Who Cares! She'll be lucky to have a gig to go back to. And she better tell her kid there ain't no Santa (according to Robin R.!) Lame-O

I have yet to meet the on-air personality who has an over-inflated ego. Au contraire. The overwhelming majority of them seem desperate to be loved; hence, the need for the camera, an inanimate object, to adore them. I have no idea who Anna Davlantes is, but my guess is that by giving birth to a baby she has become more real than she ever was and will be less dependent on the Facebook Fan page's worth of attention she now garners at the Fox morning show. Congratulations, Ms. Davlantes.

THAT'S ANNA DAVLANTES???!!??? I feel she looks better without the makeup myself. By the way, did the suits at Fox OK the message she put in the newsletter? Why is this making me think of the play by play (including the lactation by lactation) that Marion Brooks gave about the baby she had a while back??

Every once in a while one of these revelation moments comes from a celebrity who never really dealt with children. Like when Martin Short told Johnny/Jay/whoever, about taking his first child to the pediatrician, "They really do check them out, it's incredible."

I can't believe she let them film her without makeup...YIKES!!!!!!

Wow, Ms. Davlantes experiences as a new parent are totally unique and unheard of. New baby sleeps only four hours!? Amazing!

Where's the story? There's no story here! Nothing to see here folks, please move along. Oh wait, now if the Dad was Lou Canellis, then that'd be a story!
By Jimmy Da Greek (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 4:34 pm
Lets hope the kids doesn't take after dad. It'll be bouncing checks by first grade. But the best part of all is how she gave the baby her last name. Yes this woman is very vain and when out of the spotlight she hits her FB and Twitter page hard. She is the least successful person to leave Ch. 5 and we're glad she's gone.
By Marty (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 6:02 pm
Man are there some nasty comments. Happy f-ing Christmas, losers. She looks absolutely beautiful even without makeup. Not a lot of women fit in that category. Nice story and there's nothing wrong with that.
By Anonymous (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 7:05 pm
If I cared I would be following her on Twitter or Facebook, but I don't, so yeah I don't care much to know that another human reproduced. Big Bleeping Deal!
By Keeping It Real (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 7:07 pm
Judy Su giving birth on the side of the highway is news. This is worth a "Robservation" at best. And no its not haters on here - just people who know her and don't care. She is very sneaky and self-serving. Just ask Renda when she goes up there to throw people under the bus.
By Kate (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 7:15 pm
The POINT -- and geez, you'd think you numbskulls would have figured it out by now -- is that Rob likes to toss out these seemingly-benign updates, just to watch you all go crazy. That's his favorite part, to chortle over the snarling and snapping at someone whose only crime is -- now what did she do again? Oh right, had a baby.
By The Ghost of Art Petacque (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 7:33 pm
Well done, Ghost. I know I should come up with something clever or new or biting or salubrious to make this comment interesting, but I can't because of your brilliance. Keep up the good work.
By The Commander (not verified) on 12/13/2011 at 8:09 pm
Let's just say Anna Davlantes is not well liked. We read Robert Feder for what's happening around town and we bloggers give our opinions. Yea, some of us snarl and snap when we know something is true. It's great she had a baby, no problem but we are also commenting on her character.
By Anonymous (not verified) on 12/14/2011 at 2:00 am
I love this picture. Pure joy, and exhaustion and beauty. Congratulations! To all the "haters" who apparently don't understand how to read articles: she is talking about herself because she is answering questions from the journalist, who likely congratulated her on her new birth. I don't know a single brand new Mom who wouldn't feel what she described.. It not an ego issue. I've worked with Anna and she couldn't be any nicer.
By IHaveAHeart (not verified) on 12/14/2011 at 3:43 am
I'd swear that baby looks like a Ponce.

Big time congratulations to Anna and her husband on the birth of their healthy child. It should be a very simple concept to understand; they are celebrating a blessing and a major milestone in their lives. We join them in their happiness and say "Cheers!" Some of the bitter-ass clowns on this forum could use a few extended DISCO remixes in their lives. Go bang and celebrate life! Happy holidays! ;)
By Dance Music Authority (not verified) on 12/14/2011 at 10:21 am
Like the posts from obvious insiders unhappy with their own lives. Get over yourself! Think every mother can relate to the picture of Anna. Total exhaustion and total love it's a beautiful moment and most of us wish we looked that good after giving birth.
By notnecessarilynews (not verified) on 12/14/2011 at 11:42 am
@IHaveAHeart - if you read & comprehend the story, she's not talking to a journalist/answering questions - she's posting her own comments on her own blogs/websites/etc. Just FYI.
By The Heart Of The Matter (not verified) on 12/14/2011 at 12:55 pm
A new mother beams like no other with inner beauty, something a bitter person with no life of their own could possibly empathize with. Aside from that, do you think you would look 100-percent after 9 months of pregnancy, laying in a bed with flat "helmut" hair and zero makeup, and just having gone through labor? What great confidence Anna has displayed, and what great courage. Congratulations to Anna and David on this great occasion. She's one of Chi-Town's brightest and most positive on-air personalities, she's a Northwestern grad who studied at Oxford (10x smarter than the jerks who posted the snide comments here, I'm sure), and NEWS FLASH, when you're on the air, people do care!! Evidence: If these haters actually didn't care, they wouldn't bother writing in this space. What utter bitterness and hatred lies within these people God only knows. Merry Christmas and enjoy these times, life's too short for the meaningless nothingness of these irrelevant hate posters. Happy holidays to all.

Addendum to my last post: Meant to type the following: "A new mother beams like no other with inner beauty, something a bitter person with no life of their own could NOT possibly empathize with."

I agree with the media watcher who cares about Anna Davlantes having a baby i sure don't. Who also cares when Anna comes back from maternity leave I sure don't. I be happy if she never came back she sucked at NBC and also at FOX. Who cares about Anna lets hear something more interesting like what do you think will happen in the media in 2012 besides who cares about Anna Davlantes.

Congrats to Anna & her husband. However, I miss Anna's jet black hair and big brown eyes. Lose the hair coloring and colored contacts!

Terry Poulos AKA Anna. Trust me she reads these boards. She freaked out when the article came out about her being sued for bouncing checks at a restaurant , her husband hid. She immediately reached out to local bloggers to take the post down. Also keep in mind she is not known. Or one of Chicago's best. If she was then FOX would be a ratings giant. Anna is a typical anchor desperate to keep her name in the spotlight. she knows she is on the Titanic of news stations and needs to keep her stock up somehow

@LarryLondon..."I miss Anna's jet black hair and big brown eyes. Lose the hair coloring and colored contacts!" At this point I'm confused as to what her natural hair and eye color and real face is- I'll bet she's not sure either!

Wow without make up she looks like she's 12. On camera with all that makeup she looks like she's 50.

Despite Anna's trying to cover herself by checking in as "Terry Poulos" - most folks in the know saw evidence of this woman's massive ego when she started running off at the mouth a year ago about her wedding adventures. Anna - go the dictionary and look up the word "humility". Ditto for Robin Robinson
By It's Still Greek to Me (not verified) on 12/15/2011 at 7:52 am
To the very small person who goes by the anonymous moniker "It's still Greek to me," I am very much NOT Anna. Amazing that's all you've got. Weak. I must have really put you in your place. Lastly, from 5 to 7 pm tonight you can meet me in person at 33 S. Halsted. Ask for me at the door and I'll again outwit and outclass you in every conceivable way.
By Terry Poulos (not verified) on 12/15/2011 at 9:10 am
OK "Anna" I'll meet you there so you can further "outwit, outcless and put me in my place"! You're sure not doing it through here as "Terry Poulos". Sure they'll let you out of the maternity ward by then - right? Drown your sorrows in some more ouzo, woman! OPPPAAH!! (or is it OPRAH?) BWAAH!HA-HA!!
By It's Still Greel to Me (not verified) on 12/15/2011 at 9:33 am
Your comments have clearly exhibited to all - with zero ambiguity - that you are a very small person. Meanwhile, stop typing and just show up tonight and you'll see for yourself I am very much not Anna. If you had a pair, you wouldn't hide behind an anonymous moniker. It's quite apparent you have a personal ax to grind. Get over it. There's a life to be had out there somewhere. Go find it.

The real deal. Anna had a shotgun wedding everyone knows. She then chose to alert the media even before telling co-workers. She never once brought her husband out in public until after she was pregnant and got married. I have seen him in person and he's not a handsome dashing man at all. Think a 150 pound Mr.Clean. The man wasn't even living with her until weeks after they got married. At her reception ( aka the check bouncing-gate) she chose to invite only on air people. Very shallow. Which is probably why no one at work threw her a baby shower. Anna knows she made a mistake coming to WFLD so she has to throw herself out there. And yes, Anna looks sooo much better after her spray h-d makeup is put on. The photo above is what she really looks like.
By Charlie (not verified) on 12/15/2011 at 6:10 pm
Sounds like some on this post are just making stuff up to make themselves feel better or sound "in the know". She's known her husband for years they dated awhile ago and got back together, that was in a recent article. Also didn't seem like there were many "celebrity types" at the wedding. In the writeups it seemed like they were stretching to mention anyone well known. She's from Rogers Park and the neighborhood paper picked it up.

My my my! So much controversy over someone whose main talent - when she's not promoting herself - is to read words off of a TelePrompTer. It's time to move on everyone. Next topic.

Anna has that beautiful new mom look. She's a nice person- why all the haters?
By Anonymous (not verified) on 12/16/2011 at 8:49 am
Beautiful new mom looks can only be seen by those who lack malice. Indeed, despite no makeup and labor and just having gave birth, Anna is gorgeous if you actually have the intellectual and spiritual capacity to notice those nuances. There were mostly non-celebs at the wedding ceremony. This is fact (opposed to cowardly anonymous irrelevant posts). Wow, crazy haters out there. Guess you gotta have a thick skin to work in this biz cuz whatever you do, someone is always going to find a reason to bring out the bile. It's cathartic I guess (to morons, that is). Merry greetings everyone, life's too short for this crap and these creeps.
By Terry Poulos (not verified) on 12/16/2011 at 3:42 pm
and yes Terry Poulos, you seem to want to have the last word. That's fine. Next...
By Anonymous (not verified) on 12/16/2011 at 4:04 pm
I don't need the last word but the last word should not be vitriol and bile. With that, happy whatever it is that you're celebrating this time of year.

Dear John Smith, It's understandable that you gauge every woman's worth by the standard Pocahontas set, but you do realize that if we were to take your argument to its logical conclusion there would be no raison d'etre for this blog because virtually all that news anchors do on tv is read from the prompter?
