Chicago radio veteran Steve Cochran, who felt chest pain while on the air last week and drove himself to the hospital, says he’s feeling better now and hopes to be back at work soon.

Cochran, 50, has been away from the afternoon show he hosts on Salem Communications’ news/talk WIND-AM (560) since last Tuesday. Late that day, while broadcasting his evening show on KTRS-AM in St. Louis from his west suburban home, Cochran said he began feeling uncomfortable and notified his producer during a break that he was taking himself off the air.

After driving himself to a nearby hospital, Cochran said he underwent tests and was given medication to relieve the problem. He’s back home now and expects to return to his multiple daily air shifts soon.

“The doctor said I’ll be 125 percent,” Cochran told me Monday. “Which is great news unless you really hate my show.”

Cochran’s shows air from 5 to 7pm weekdays on WIND, and from 10am to noon and from 6 to 9pm weekdays on KTRS. The 6pm hour overlaps on both stations.
