But wait, there's more…
Best Church of God at the Lakeshore Theater
Every Sunday starting September 20
Holy shit! After last year’s Jesus-approved run at Donny’s Skybox, our favorite Bible belters deliver unto us a second helping of Sabbath silliness in the form of a spot-on parody of religious fundamentalism and evangelical worship services. It’s not so much God who’s in the hot seat here as the fools who claim to speak on his behalf. Praise be.
Mary Lynn Rajskub at the Lakeshore Theater
October 2
Known as both the tech analyst for the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit on 24 and the unfortunate recipient of a full-mouth kiss from radio wag Rush Limbaugh, the Midwestern-born-and-bred Rajskub (pronounced “rice cub”) has legitimate comedy cred. After goofing it up with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross on Mr. Show and playing the comic foil to Amy Adams’s whiny blogger in Julie & Julia, the understated character actor proves just as funny when she’s manning the mike.
Robin Williams at the Rosemont Theatre
October 2
Sure, the guy makes the occasional bad movie (an understatement, we know), and yes, his manic behavior can be as off-putting as it is intriguing. But we love a good homecoming, and after Williams postponed his Weapons of Self-Destruction tour last spring to have a new aortic valve screwed on, the Chicago native finally returns with his inimitable take on politics, pundits and pop culture.
Jon LaJoie at Zanies
November 12
When Montreal-based Internet comic Jon LaJoie puts on his best douche-bag persona and sings lyrics such as, “I have an According to Jim personality / I’m as entertaining as a fucking STD,” don’t buy it for a second (or three-and-a-half minutes, as the case may be). The YouTube sensation cuts a more clever persona live, and we love every minute of it. Of course, he won’t win over any Jacko devotees with his outrageously offensive new song “Michael Jackson Is Dead.”
