Opening night
The Silent Film Society of Chicago kicks off its five weekly screenings of presound masterpieces with Tillie’s Punctured Romance, a 1914 Mack Sennett comedy in which the pre-Tramp Charlie Chaplin plays a cad who dumps his wife, then returns to her when he learns she’s inherited a fortune. Mark Noller will provide live accompaniment on the organ.
Tillie’s Punctured Romance screens Friday 19 at 8pm at the newly reopened Portage Theatre (4050 N Milwaukee Ave). For details, visit www.silentfilmchicago.com.
