Body of Lies

It’s getting hard to remain a Ridley Scott fan. Once a director who could make anything—an Apple computer, a chest-bursting alien—seem sexy, Scott has here made a generic high-tech spy picture. Adapted way too faithfully from David Ignatius’s tricky 2007 novel, it comes to life only when DiCaprio, playing a supercapable CIA agent, speaks the terse language of operational tactics. Meanwhile, Crowe, as a carbed-up desk warrior, takes the kids to soccer practice. Scott must be the only director in the world who still finds him funny. The disc’s extras include a typically unilluminating director’s commentary and some featurettes.
