New Madonna video "Gimme All Your Luvin'" debuts.
Madonna's new video "Give Me All Your Luvin'" featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. debuted today and I'm dying to know your thoughts. Let's break it down:
It begins with the roar of a crowd and an overlay of words against a brick wall stating, "Fans can make you famous, a contract can make you rich, the press can make you a superstar, but only luv can make you a player." Okay, so it's not exactly profound, but whatever.
We then get shots of M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj in cheerleading gear in some sort of suburban utopia holding pom poms and shouting, "L-U-V Madonna!". Madge herself emerges from an exploding pink door dressed in a beige trench coat and pushing a baby stroller. She looks good, right?
Suddenly it's raining gold and Madge finds herself removing her coat as burly football players protect her with umbrellas. Naturally, they thrown down their letterman's jackets as she struts along the sidewalk so as not to step in any puddles of gold. Inexplicably, the football players rip apart a taxi cab (where do you see those in the suburbs?!?!) and hoist Madonna upon their shoulders and next thing we know she's walking sideways along some buildings. Cut to Madonna walking a red carpet (I mean, when isn't she?!?!) and the football players are taking bullets for her as a tommy gun tries to mow her down (we never see who the shooter is but it's probably ex-hubbie Guy Ritchie right?!).
What's this? Madonna is suddenly in some futuristic cocktail bar in a blond wig and a white cocktail dress that recalls both Marilyn Monroe and "Like A Virgin." This is where we get a full on M.I.A. and Minaj rap. The video ends with the chorus repeating itself while Madonna, Minaj and M.I.A. dance on the football players' shoulders and bash their heads in with bats before a curtain and the word "touchdown" brings the video to an end.
My questions for you. Do we like the video? Do we like the song? Is it too Superbowl derivitive? How does Madonna look? Is this a return to form? Do tell.
