Gay man's best friend
Fall gets a boost from a trio of fabulous fag hags.

WHAT Margaret Cho performs songs from Cho Dependent
WHEN Oct 16
WHERE Chicago Theatre (175 N State St, 312-642-6300, thechicagotheatre.com)
When fall rolls around, nothing beats strolling the streets with a cup o’ hot chocolate in your hand and your best gal pal by your side. This year in particular we’re excited to welcome back a trio of women we love.
First up is L.A.-based stand-up and ultimate fruit fly Margaret Cho. Her new tour, Cho Dependent, is based on the album of the same name, a collection of comic ditties about interventions, getting high and, naturally, her vagina. Plus, it’s coauthored by musical greats such as Fiona Apple, Tegan and Sara, Andrew Bird and Ani DiFranco. Cho will perform material from the new album alongside her trademark stand-up.
WHAT Mindy Cohn in Violet Tendencies
WHEN Nov 4–13
WHERE Likely appearing at Reeling film festival, various locations ( reelingfilmfestival.org)
We’re even giddier for the film Violet Tendencies, starring The Facts of Life’s Mindy Cohn (a.k.a. Natalie Green) as the self-proclaimed “oldest living fag hag,” who wonders if her gays are the reason she’s still single at 40. Tendencies has been making the festival circuit this summer and has been invited (although not yet confirmed) to screen at Reeling, Chicago’s lesbian and gay film festival this fall. We haven’t loved all of director Casper Andreas’s previous films (Big Gay Musical, A Four Letter Word), but with Cohn onboard, we’re going batshit over this one.
WHAT Tales of the City gets an update with Mary Ann in Autumn
WHEN In stores Nov 2
And let’s not forget beloved hag Mary Ann Singleton from Armistead Maupin’s treasured Tales of the City series. The perky Midwesterner who moves to San Francisco in the ’70s and befriends a gaggle of gays is the subject of Maupin’s new book, Mary Ann in Autumn, which catches up with Singleton at age 57, now a Connecticut hausfrau who returns to San Francisco to find herself.
