Class action

Pack away the flip-flops and Frisbees: It’s time to get in the mood for candy corn, jack-o-lanterns, haunted houses and ghosts. This fall, skip the scary movie reruns and learn about the supernatural world at one of these classes. Psychic abilities might be a bit too much to ask for—but maybe the spirit will move you.
Chart Interpretation Made Easy
Sure, sure, we’re skeptical of this stuff, too. But ever wondered why newspaper horoscopes are eerily always right? In this class, you’ll take an even deeper look at your sign than your favorite tabloid astrologist: Configure your specific natal chart—a horoscope based on the exact time, date and location of birth—and learn to draw complex charts to see how the sun, moon and planets might predict your future. $149. Classes begin Sept 19, Wednesdays for eight weeks, 6:30–8pm. Kriya Yoga, 2414 N Kedzie Blvd (773–342–4600, yogakriya.org).
The Craft and Magick: A Practice in Tradition
Learn the history, practice and philosophy of magick—using your mental powers to stimulate change—at this class designed for beginners and experienced practitioners. In case you’re curious (we were, too) the “k” distinguishes it from stage magic. The class covers meditation, daily and group practice and tools of magick—a pentacle, challis and dagger. Now follow that old horror movie proverb: Only use your skills for good. $5 a class plus materials fees.Every other Tuesday, starting Sept 18, 7–9pm. The Occult Bookstore, 1164 N Milwaukee Ave (773–292–0995, occultbookstore.com).
Out of Body Adventuring
This class vows to take you on an out-of-body adventure through Astral projection. We haven’t tried it yet, but in theory, the spirit leaves the physical body to travel in a non-physical plane. To get you there, instructor Ken Melvoin-Berg teaches the skills of chakra balancing—stabilizing the centers of energy located throughout the body—and energy raising. These techniques, meditation and lucid dreaming are supposed to allow you to travel anywhere, from 17th-century Russia to the moon. Beats waiting in line at O’Hare. $45 plus $15 materials fee. Sept 20, 7–10pm. Discovery Center, 2940 N Lincoln Ave (773–348–8120, discoverycenter.cc).
Numerology
Why are Cindys perky and Philberts nerdy? Numerology instructor Philip Clark thinks he knows. In his class, you can learn how your name, along with your birth date, influences your personality and life. Then find out how you can emphasize the positives and work through the weaknesses that your name and birth date might bring. Thanks, mom and dad. $15 a class. Class meets every Wednesday, 8–9pm. Styx & Stonz, 1758 Algonquin Rd, Hoffman Estates (866–355–0017).—Kat McCullough
