Let’s skate two! A heavy snow was falling as workers began erecting a hockey rink in the middle of Wrigley Field, venue of Thursday 1’s much-anticipated (and very sold-out) NHL Winter Classic matchup between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings. Suddenly, a 53-foot-long refrigeration truck hauling a trailer full of ice-making gadgetry pulled up and parked on quiet Waveland Avenue. Out of the passenger seat hopped Blackhawks Hall of Famer Bobby Hull (pictured), braving the cold temps in vintage Hawks attire. “A day just like this—19 or 20 degrees with the snowflakes falling,” Hull said, “would be the perfect day to play the greatest game Chicago has ever seen.” Hull said he isn’t concerned that the Cubs’ bad luck might rub off onto the Hawks, whose recent burst of winning play has added even more interest in the game. “We’re not going to let that happen,” he said, laughing. “Actually, I think the Blackhawks are going to change the Cubs’ bad luck to good luck.” Can’t score tickets to the Winter Classic? For $10, you can skate on the Wrigley rink from 9am–4pm on Sunday 4.
