De Fietsfabriek store

Jon Lind has been pushing a bike pedal instead of a gas pedal around Chicago since he returned from Amsterdam in 2007—and it’s no speedy fixed gear (we’re so over reckless bikers). His ride? A handmade, stylish De Fietsfabriek—Dutch for “the bike factory.” After spending years as a fan, Lind left his job in the finance industry to open the country’s first De Fietsfabriek store in Old Town earlier this month. Describing the stylish but uber-pricey machines, which cost around $1,500–$3,000, Lind says: “You can drop the kids at school, pick up groceries and pedal to the park [with a two-wheel, three-seat model.] It’s not for the spandex cyclist,” he adds, but more for “the guy who wants to put on a suit and ride to work.” Need a reason to buy one?
