Members of the local video-art collective Thunder Horse, known for work with DJ duo Flosstradamus, have revived the much-missed Bike-in Cinema, rechristening the outdoor film-screening series Sunset Cinema and playing movies on Wednesdays biweekly in a grassy empty lot in Humboldt Park. “Chicago has Movies in the Park, but they’re playing the classics of our parents’ generation,” said Thunder Horse’s Alex Gvojic, 25, who was manning the concessions table (canned PBR, hot dogs, popcorn). “They’re not playing stuff like RoboCop—the cult classics for people my age.” The night’s selection was the 1991 film Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, starring Christina Applegate as a high schooler who cons her way into an executive position at an apparel company. Remarked one viewer, “God, it was hella easy to get a job back in the day.” The next Sunset Cinema is Wednesday 15 on Evergreen Street between Washtenaw Avenue and Rockwell Street.
