Take paws
The dog days have long passed, but Spot can stay active by hightailing it to these activities.

If pup likes the lake…
The dog beach is a distant memory, but Spot can still hone his doggy paddle at Integrative Pet Care’s Fitness Club. In the sunny hydrotherapy room, he’ll step onto a glass-enclosed underwater treadmill or descend a ramp into a resistance pool. A therapist watches as he walks, swims against jets or stretches. Integrative Pet Care, 2520 W Armitage Ave (773-269-2964, integrativepetcare.com). $63 for a 30-minute session.

If pup likes vegging out…
He can hit up Lake Shore Athletic Club’s Paws & Flow class. Exercise coordinator and resident dog-lover Becky Solomon kicks off each 45-minute session with a ten-minute open romp, complete with squeaky toys and tennis balls. Next, you and your canine companion will hit the mat together for some calming poses and breathing exercises. Lake Shore Athletic Club, Illinois Center, 221 N Stetson St (312-616-9000, lsac.com). Dec 19 at noon; $10, members free, first class free for nonmembers.

If pup likes running…
The fit folks from Chicago Dog Runner swing by, grab Spot and take him for a jog (generally five miles) along the lakefront. “We don’t have to worry about them overheating like in the summer,” says founder David Hill. Better yet, the staff of serious outdoor enthusiasts braves rough weather conditions, so you don’t have to. (773-290-2582, chicagodogrunner.com). 45–60 minute runs $29.

If pup likes socializing…
At Stay’s day care, he can lap up 12,000 square feet of indoor canine playground. Based on his size and temperament, he’ll be dispatched into one of three supervised, toy-filled, joint-friendly, epoxy covered floors, where he and his furry companions can sniff to their hearts’ content. Stay. A Modern Dog Hotel, 4130 N Rockwell St (773-509-0001, staydoghotel.com). Mon–Fri 7am–7pm, Sat–Sun 8am–6pm; $28 per day.
