Passover

By Lissa Bennett

Can’t make it to Bubbe’s house for Passover this year? Fear not, you can still get your fix of matzo-ball soup at these community seders open to all.

Family Seder with Beth Hillel
Round up the kinderlekh and join Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah for a family-friendly affair on the second night of Passover. You can nosh on matzah, and kibitz about how much you’ll miss leavened bread for eight whole days. Reservations required. Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah, 3220 Big Tree Lane, Wilmette (847-256-1213, bhcbe.org). Tue 30 at 7:30pm; $45, kids 15 and under $35.

Chicago’s Downtown Chabad
Get a double serving of Hillel sandwiches: Join the Chabad Center for two nights of Passover dinner. Its second-night seder includes a more informative discussion, so you can reflect on the meaning of Passover (a remembrance of the Hebrews’ flight from slavery, duh) more than you would just by watching The Prince of Egypt. An R.S.V.P. is appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome. Chabad Center for Jewish Life (312-427-7770, centerforjewishlife.com). Mon 29, 7:30–10:30pm at 1236 N Dearborn St; Tue 30, 7:30–9:30pm at 1221 N Dearborn St; $36, students $18, kids $15.

Kehilla Seder for 20s and 30s
Finding the afikomen may have been the highlight of Passover when you were six, but now it’s time to get excited about the adult aspects: That means gulping down the traditional four cups of wine, not grape juice. Forget the illustrated children’s Haggadah, and join Sidney N. Shure Kehilla at Temple Shalom for a seder especially for adults in their twenties and thirties. Register online at shurekehilla.wufoo.com/forms/young-adult-seder-registration. Temple Shalom, 3480 N Lake Shore Dr (224-374-9090, kehilla@gojcc.org). Mon 29 at 7pm, $36.
