Casting complete for Tanya Saracho's El Nogalar at Goodman Theatre

Tanya Saracho
The Goodman Theatre and Teatro Vista have announced casting for their upcoming coproduction of Tanya Saracho's El Nogalar. Saracho's play, a loose adaptation of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard set in present-day northern Mexico, will be directed by Cecilie Keenan; her cast will be headed by Charin Alvarez as family matriarch Maite, with Sandra Delgado and Christina Nieves as her daughters Valeria and Anita. Carlo Lorenzo Garcia will play family friend Lopez, with Yun Pardo and Bert Matias rounding out the cast as the family's house staff. I profiled Saracho for a cover story last summer, when the Goodman staged a reading of an early version of El Nogalar as part of the Latino Theatre Festival. Saracho is currently in Ucross, Wyoming, as one of the seven participating artists chosen for the Sundance Institute's Playwrights' Retreat. El Nogalar runs March 26–April 24.
