Sonny Burgess joins Million Dollar Quartet tonight
Rockabilly vet (and my fellow Arkansas native) Sonny Burgess recorded his first hit, 1956's "We Wanna Boogie," for Sam Phillips's Sun Records. Burgess headlines the Abbey Pub tomorrow night; tonight, he'll (sort of) revisit Sun's Memphis heyday, sitting in with the actor-musicians who play Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis in the long-running jukebox musical Million Dollar Quartet. Burgess will join the MDQ cast for the show's encore; following the show, rock historian and Million Dollar Quartet co-writer Colin Escott (a newly minted Grammy nominee for his production work on the Hank Williams box set The Complete Mother's Best Recordingsā¦Plus!) will lead a Q&A session.
