Flossing enthusiasts, take note: Dental Society Midwinter Meeting is booking a checkup. Laura Jacqmin's play about the inner lives of dentists at a convention, directed by Megan Shuchman, had an all-too-brief run in its summer premiere at Chicago Dramatists. (Check out TOC theater writer John Beer and I discussing DSMW and Cherrywood, two of the summer's most fascinating works.) Now Ann Filmer, artistic director of Berwyn's ambitious 16th Street Theater, tells me she's remounting Dental Society Midwinter Meeting as the first show of 16th Street's 2011 season. "I saw it closing weekend [in August], because I love Laura's work," Filmer says. "I went out for a beer after with Megan and Laura, and I said, I have a crazy idea." Jacqmin will be named playwright-in-residence for 16th Street's season; in addition to Dental Society, she'll workshop two more new plays with the theater. You can revisit the dentists February 24–March 26 (just in time for the real-life dental society midwinter meeting); 16th Street will announce the rest of its season shortly.
