Second City's Tom Flanigan tapped for SNL

Yep, Chicago is hot again. Last year, Second City Mainstage cast member Pat O'Brien was hired to write for SNL's 35th season. Lighting struck again last month when another Mainstage member, Shelly Gossman, was similarly picked after Lorne Michaels and company paid Chicago a visit. According to Huffington Post, good news has again arrived. Tom Flanigan, an e.t.c. ensemble member currently starring in The Absolute Best Friggin' Time of Your Life has been hired to join SNL as a writer for its upcoming 36th season. Time Out Chicago was among the first to call out Flanigan as one to watch. In our tribute to Second City's 50th anniversary last December, we named Flanigan as one of the venerable theater company's most promising talents and offered him the opportunity to interview his comic hero Brian Stack. Read about it here. Congratulations Tom.
