The Hypocrites' Cabaret has a cast, hooray
We've known some of this unofficially for a while, but this afternoon the Hypocrites confirmed the cast and design team for its rapidly approaching production of Kander and Ebb's Cabaret—the second major revival this season of the 1966 work. Director Matt Hawkins's production at the DCA's Storefront Theater looks to bear little resemblance to last fall's well-executed but rather passive mounting at Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace. Jessie Fisher (pictured, Rivendell's These Shining Lives) leads a cast that includes Lindsay Leopold (a recent DePaul M.F.A. who appeared last fall in First Folio's Castle of Otranto) as Sally Bowles, Michael Peters (TimeLine's The History Boys, The New Colony's Amelia Earhart Jungle Princess) as Cliff, Kate Harris (Lifeline's Busman's Honeymoon, Griffin's The Constant Wife) as Fraulein Schneider and Jim Heatherly (Porchlight's Miracle on 34th Street) as Herr Schultz.
Laura Ewing, Rob McLean, Kyle Erkonen, John Ferrick, Nikki Klix, John Moran, Dana Omar, Chelsea Paice, Doug Pawlik, Erik Schroeder, Britni Tozzi, Dana Tretta, and Shannon Welling round out the cast. Musical director is Strawdog's Mike Przygoda, who performed the same duty for Hawkins's Red Noses; he'll lead musicians Kevin O'Donnell, Brandon Campbell, Kristina Lee and Renee Serritella. Set design is by Marianna Csaszar, who designed Theatre Mir's current Beautiful City in the same space, with lighting by Heather Gilbert, sound by Michael Griggs, and costumes by Alison Siple.
The Hypocrites' Cabaret runs April 15–May 23. On Monday, April 19, DCA Theater and DirectorsLabChicago co-sponsor a discussion between Hawkins and Jim Corti, director of Drury Lane's production, about their different approaches to the material (7pm, Chicago Cultural Center, Claudia Cassidy Theatre, FREE).
