Casting call for Bono's Spider-Man musical

Posted in Unscripted blog by Kris Vire on Apr 2, 2009 at 4:04pm

spidermanAs a longtime fan of your friendly neighborhood wallcrawler, I'm frankly terrified by the prospect of this Broadway-bound Spider-Man musical being worked up by Julie Taymor, Bono and the Edge. (If this is the first you've heard of it, I should note that it's no longer April Fool's Day. This shit is real.) Great musicals have been crafted from all kinds of source material, and Taymor's vision for The Lion King is justifiably legendary. But superheroes and musicals have mixed poorly in the past; with reports from a preview presentation last week indicating that Taymor's inventing characters, my danger-warning Fanboy Sense buzzes like crazy.

The show's producers announced today that they'll hold open casting calls across the country, "regardless of experience" (and regardless of what Evan Rachel Wood may think). They're hitting Chicago on Thursday, May 7; aspiring Peter Parkers and Mary Jane Watsons can find more info after the jump.

The production is looking for candidates to fill the following roles (both principals and understudies):

PETER PARKER – Male. 16-20’s. Must have a great rock tenor voice. Can be nerdy with understated sex appeal and a good sense of humor.

MARY JANE – Female. 16-20’s. Beautiful girl next door. Strong pop/rock singing voice required.

In addition, SPIDER-MAN is looking for a

LEAD FEMALE VILLAIN – Female. 25-35 years old. All ethnicities encouraged. Must have an amazing rock voice. Think Sinead O’Connor with a Middle Eastern/Bulgarian/Greek twist. Foreign and/or world music types are great. Foreign accents are great.

WHAT TO BRING:
All interested people should bring a snapshot or photo of themselves and a brief pop/rock or rock song to sing a cappella.
