Record Store Day 2011 at Reckless, Wicker Park | Photo gallery
One need not be obsessed with reproductions of hard-to-find singles or limited edition vinyl to get into Record Store Day, but it helps. The vinyl-lover's holiday has grown into something of a mammoth manic dash for the goodies. If Chicago's experience this Saturday was any indication, the cadre of record lovers is growing again and they're hungry for the goods. Shops such as Laurie's Planet of Sound and Numero Group's pop-up shop reported lines down the block in the morning, robust sales and packed rooms. At Reckless Wicker Park, there was even more going on—with a full day's line-up of local acts of note including avant guitarist Jeff Parker, classic pop group The Singleman Affair and psych-tinged Cairo Gang.
