I'm not entirely sure who is running Trax Records these days—I do know the label has been subject to endless and painful legal battles in the past. But I've started to get some promo downloads from the label recently and it seems to be ramping things up again with this new 25th Anniversary mix from Joe Smooth, who also writes about the rise and fall of Trax on urb.com. If you've always wanted to tip toe into Chicago house music's various original and spin-off flavors, you might as well dive right in here with classic tracks from Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Phuture, Maurice Joshua and Screamin' Rachael. Love it? Download the Trax Records 25th Anniversary Mixtape.

A little further back on the history of dance music spectrum, soul has been strong in the clubs in recent years and the fine lads of Windy City Soul Club have been doing their part in Chicago. They've lent us a nice anniversary mix to celebrate the dance night's birthday, hitting the Empty Bottle this Saturday night—the first 200 heads through the door get the anniversary CD with custom HC zine graphics. It's definitely among the friskiest of the soul dance parties going in town—you're hopeless if you can't make a friend on the dancefloor at WCSC. Give the mix a spin and give the video below a little look.

Play Windy City Soul Club anniversary mix or download it.
