Sónar Chicago wraps up line-up, adds after parties

Adding to an already robust slate of late summer offerings for adventurous, music seeking Chicagoans, Spain's Sónar festival announced final details of the line up for it's Chicago edition today. Beyond the events scheduled for the avant-garde musical festival itself, which takes place September 9–11, Sónar has also teamed with Smart Bar and the Red Bull Music Academy for a weekend of after parties—the likes of which this city rarely sees.
Sónar's initial cast of musical characters swelled with talent spanning the local and the international, the club-certified and the cerebral. We've known about sets from hybrid techno and dubstep DJ Martyn, turntable rocker Kid Koala (accompanied by his band Slew) and glitch artist Oval for a few weeks now. The completed schedule can now boast Detroit-born cyber funkateer Jimmy Edgar as well as the duo of Nicolas Bernier & Martin Messier, who travel with ample homemade gadgetry to color their performances.
But the real news lies in the after parties at Smart Bar. Once the concert at the Pritzker Pavilion lets out on Friday night, Smart Bar takes the reins with an impressive bill that includes obscure French dance music explorer Bernard Fevre, a.k.a. Black Devil Disco Club. A musician ahead of his time, Fevre made his first BDDC recordings in the late '70s, but it really hasn't been until the Italo renaissance and nudisco serge that his work has received it's proper recognition. Playing live at Smart Bar is a rare treat indeed. Giving even more allure to the night, U.K. dubstep rebel Appleblim, Detroit split-personality Todd Osborn and techno futurist Cosmin TRG are also slated to deejay.
After-party adventures continue on Saturday when forward-thinking technoist Marcel Dettman, of the Ost Gut Ton label, headlines.
