The Numero Group takes its Eccentric Soul Revue on the road

Posted in Audio File blog by Brent DiCrescenzo on Aug 5, 2009 at 12:48pm

La Villita–based record archeologists, the Numero Group, blew the roof off Park West in early April with the label's first live concert showcase, the Eccentric Soul Revue. Middle-aged R&B crooners stepped out of the past to relive the glory days jumpin' South Side nightclubs. In case you missed it, we were in on the rehearsals.

Now, Syl Johnson, Renaldo Domino and co. are squeezing onto a bus to take the show on the road, backed as before by JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound and friends (the string section, however, will not make the trip). Check out the Stax-inspired trailer above. You haven't lived until you've seen a 73-year-old man do pelvic thrusts and wail his throat out.

This fall, Numero will release a stunning coffee-table book and LP set chronicling Chicago nightlife in the 1970s. We've seen it, and Light on the South Side might be the reissue label's crowning achievement.
