Billy Corgan seems to revel in defying our expectations even as he explores his own eccentricities—it has, in a large part, worked for him. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman released the commercially successful Zeitgeist comeback album in 2007, but chose to disband then reform his band with entirely new players. Now, the new Smashing Pumpkins seem as ambitious as ever. They dipped deep into the old catalog to round out the set this past weekend, building some excitement as the band (we're told) prepares to release Oceania, an album possibly drawn from 44-song (possibly abandoned) superalbum Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. The other latest venture from the Blackhawks fanatic is a throwback wrestling league called Resistance Pro, which to some ears sounds like a throwback exercise system that Ronco might have sold. Who's to say it won't be a smashing success? Yes, I just wrote that.
