Mass Shivers
Ecstatic Eyes Glow Glossy (Sick Room)

These shimmy-shaking locals make a major leap past the jagged post-punk of their debut. Brett Sova sings like the bastard love child of Steven Tyler and Iggy Pop, hooting and hollering over manic krautrock beats courtesy of drummer Sean Wilke, but it’s really all about the twin-guitar attack (electronic octave effects belch out awesomely thick bass) and engagingly claustrophobic layers of vocals and rhythm. The tunes hit hard, hooky without being hokey, riffy sans ridiculousness. Our only gripe is that the ten songs clock in at under 30 minutes, wrapping things up when you still want some more.—Ben Taylor
