“Everyone’s at It”
Lily Allen
Perhaps hoping for buzz from a Brooke Shields–led boycott, Allen delivers a cheeky, Scientologist-like attack on antidepressants—a bizarre choice for a pop comeback. The young Brit tabloid darling goes all Denis Leary, asking, “How can we start to tackle the problem / if you don’t put your hand up and admit that you’re on them?” The preaching goes down easier wrapped in Mac-made club funk—along the lines of keyboard geeks like Calvin Harris and Walter Meego—that bursts with a pounding chorus and feel-good Flash Gordon whoa-a-aahs. It’s a quick shot of artificial endorphin…oh, I see what you did there.
