The local singer-violist specializes in intimate and oddly percussive chamber-folk—like Joanna Newsom’s fantasies with all the Renaissance-fair quirks ironed out. It’s the kind of music that, were you to hear it played by a busker, would make you pause a moment to take in its skewed beauty before tossing a few bucks into the pot. The Minnesota native recorded this Steve Albini–produced debut in a mere day. It was enough time, apparently, to learn an unexpectedly lovely cover of Ace of Base’s “Living in Danger.”
