* FREE Azita Laurie’s Planet of Sound. Noon. Lincoln Square’s indie haven enters the Record Store Day fray, offering up a free noontime set from charmingly off-kilter singer-pianist Azita.
* FREE Disappears + Steve Krakow Reckless Records (Wicker Park). 3pm. Reckless’s most popular outpost offers up rock & roll caricatures from Steve Krakow of Galactic Zoo Dossier and Plastic Crimewave fame. Local drug-rockers Disappears play live at 5pm, preceded by a secret special guest at 3pm. Free goodies are included along with all the usual exclusives, but the store recommends calling ahead to confirm set times.
* FREE The Flaming Lips’ Zaireeka Listening Party + Marissa Nadler + Helen Money Permanent Records. 3pm. West Town upstart Permanent Records promises free swag, plus an all-day sale. Live performances begin at 3pm with cellist Helen Money, followed at 4pm by Marissa Nadler (see the Handsome Family). Bring your boombox at 7pm for a listening party dedicated to realizing the Flaming Lips’ quadrophonic opus, Zaireeka.
* FREE Lair of the Minotaur + Allá + Lawrence Peters Outfit Reckless Records (Lakeview). 3pm. In addition to the usual fare found around town, the Lakeview outlet’s put together an eclectic roundup of local talent featuring psych-rockers Allá, country combo the Lawrence Peters Outfit and Southern Lord sludge warriors Lair of the Minotaur. For set times, call ahead.
FREE The Republic Tigers + The Friday Night Boys + The Projection + Anison + Lyon & The Notary Reggie’s Music Joint. Noon–7pm. Record Breakers, Reggie’s music-emporium sidekick, gives the competition a run for its money with a storewide 20% discount. On top of that there’s free nosh, plus live sets courtesy of local indies the Projection, the Republic Tigers, the Friday Night Boys, Anison and Lyon & The Notary.
* FREE Mark Solotroff, Bruce Lamont & Right-Eye Rita + Coins + Three Cheers for One Dead Man Reckless Records (Loop). 1pm. The newest Reckless outpost sees an experimental lineup of live acts throughout the afternoon beginning at 1pm with former Flying Luttenbacher Dylan Posa and his Three Cheers for One Dead Man. Dream-pop duo Coins follows at 2pm, the new project from Sybris’s Angela Mullenhour and Ellen Bunch of Reds and Blue. Noise-monger Mark Solotroff teams up with Yakuza’s Bruce Lamont and Right-Eye Rita for an experimental interlude at 3pm.
