You ask, we answer

Q: When I’m out, I hate to just sit around and drink, but I suck at pool and darts, and video games don’t do it for me. Any ideas?—Mike G., Portage Park
A: You need to go old school, my friend, and find a foosball table. Sure, there’s some skill involved but, unlike pool and darts, only the person you’re playing against can see how bad you are. We’ve even found some foosball scenes. In Wrigleyville, Mullen’s (3527 N Clark St between Eddy St and Cornelia Ave, 773-325-2319) has a Tuesday-night tournament where everyone pays $5 to play, partners are paired at random, the bar matches half the pot, and the winner takes all. You’ll find plenty of casual foosers on other nights, too. If you’re looking for a place downtown, we like Streeters (50 E Chicago Ave at Wabash Ave, 312-944-5206), a subterranean spot that draws a mix of grad students, shoppers, locals and plenty of foos fans. Even on off nights, bartenders say there’s usually someone around willing to play a table-soccer match. Bim Bom Lounge (5226 W Belmont Ave between Laramie and Lockwood Aves, 773-777-2120) in Belmont-Cragin is one of the more eclectic places where we’ve played—the kind of bar that makes you say “only in Chicago.” Where else could you find a Polish bar with an exterior of sheet metal, an interior decorated with metal art, and a vibe that makes punks and heavy-metal lovers feel at home?—Noah Isackson
