Just opened: The Brown Sack

YA SERVE FRIES WITH THAT SHAKE? There aren’t a lot of places on the western edge of Logan Square where you can get a grilled organic peanut butter–and–banana sandwich. So when Malaika Marion, a manager at Lula Café, came up empty when trying to find one in her ’hood, she decided to open The Brown Sack, her self-described “sandwich/soup/shake shack.” Customers order from the simple menu at the counter before grabbing one of a handful of seats in the cozy, early-closing café (7pm daily until warmer weather hits). Chili, chicken with dumplings, minestrone and creamy tomato soup join meatball-packed subs, grilled three-cheese sandwiches, Reubens and a roster of hand-dipped, made-to-order shakes in all the classic flavors. Standard deli sandwiches like pastrami and roasted turkey are also available, but we’d suggest going with the PB&B that started it all. 3706 W Armitage Ave at Lawndale Ave (773-661-0675).—Heather Shouse
