Former Moto sous chef Daryl Nash is not the culinary Dr. Frankenstein that his former boss, chef Homaro Cantu, is. But mad science in the kitchen isn’t really the point of Moto’s casual, less experimental sister spot, Otom. Its name literally mirrors Moto, but nothing on Otom’s menu reflects the extraterrestrial creations or sky-high prices of its sibling. “Moto’s focus is above and beyond the norm,” Nash says. “Otom’s focus is the norm.” That translates to more accessible fare, most of it priced less than $20. A miniburger trio (blue cheese; bacon and cheddar; mushroom and Swiss) shows up on the appetizer menu, while the rest of the list is padded with comfort cuisine like mac and cheese, chicken pie, and lasagna—dishes Nash won’t be preparing with a laser. “I’ll leave that to Homaro.” 951 W Fulton Mkt between Sangamon and Morgan Sts (312-491-5804).—Jake Malooley
