Greece is the word

Vickie (left) and Toni Zervas like Greektown just fine, but the sisters believe the touristy ’hood can’t hold a candle to the authentic eats they’ll dish up at Mythos Greek Taverna, their new BYOB in Ravenswood. “Everything you can get in Greektown you can get here, but better,” Vickie touts. “Plus, we’ll have a few more things you couldn’t find there.” That includes shrimp cakes (like crab cakes but made with shrimp), flaming feta for saganaki (as opposed to the usual kasseri cheese), octopus in lemon-wine sauce and individual ceramic dishes of baked-to-order pastitsio (meat sauce and macaroni casserole). You might have to wait 20 minutes for that last one, because Vickie insists Mythos won’t have prebaked portions hanging out on a steam table in the kitchen. “No steam table, ever,” the Greek-American insists. “And no pictures of Greece all over the walls like most places. This place will stand out for our food.” 2032 W Montrose Ave at Seeley Ave (773-334-2000).
