They say that the only thing that’s constant is change. Amend that to “change and beer” and the fact that Sheffield’s is undergoing a transformation after 28 years makes total sense. The quintessential neighborhood bar is stepping it up by making over its main room with chocolate-brown leather banquettes, new leather bar stools, two “Gangster” booths that seat five people each and a few flat-screen TVs. The idea is less drunken debauchery, more lounging with craft beer (from an extensive list) and barbecue. Old-timers need not worry about the old Sheffield’s, though: The other rooms, including the famous garden, remain the same. At least for now. 3258 N Sheffield Ave between Belmont Ave and School St (773-281-4989).
