Hub 51

BRANCHING OUT Richard Melman named his son after the first Lettuce Entertain You restaurant, R.J. Grunts, and for some kids that would be reason enough to rebel and join a moody punk band. But not R.J. This week, he and his younger brother Jerrod further entrench themselves in the family business by opening Hub 51. The menu is based completely on what they typically eat: classic American food plus sushi and Mexican, cuisines so ubiquitous that they’re “becoming American,” Jerrod Melman says. Chef Michael Bellovich, a ten-year Lettuce alum, is in charge of putting out the food. Still, the brothers insist this isn’t a typical Lettuce place. With its open layout, DJ booths and garage doors, it’s supposed to be younger and hipper. And, Jerrod Melman intimates, a taste of “what Lettuce will be down the line.” 51 W Hubbard St at Dearborn St (312-828-0051).
