Is the economy squashing your dining and philanthropic efforts? Knock out both as Nacional 27 hosts the first fund-raising event for Everything’s Gonna Be OK, a charity dedicated to helping children. Nibble on tapas and ceviche and sip on sangria, beer and wine while scoring mad karma points. EGBOK’s first event benefits children of Cambodia. $35. 6–7:30pm. 325 W Huron St (egbokmission.blogspot.com).

Saturday 7
The Chicago Beer Society’s annual Night of the Living Ales event is now a double feature. More than 40 cask-conditioned ales can be sampled at Goose Island Wrigleyville, and attendees can also vote for the 2009 Champion Real Ale of Chicagoland. Luckily, Goose Island grub will be available to soak up some of the sampled suds. $40. 1–5pm and 6–10pm. 3535 N Clark St (chibeer.org).

Sunday 8
The Chicago Flower & Garden Show includes cooking demos by Chicago chefs. Today’s demos include Chicago’s Food Network export chef Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh, a.k.a. the Hearty Boys. The Boys will whip up seared “French-style” chicken breast, herbed porridge and flatbread; the first 100 people get samples, which beats watching them on TV. $14. 600 E Grand Ave (chicagoflower.com).
