Second City Subs

If the fashion crowd is still off the carbs, Blake Patterson, owner of the newly opened Second City Subs, didn’t get the memo: He situated his deli just down the street from Barneys Co-op and in a space that once housed Shabby Chic. Then again, maybe this deli native (he’s been working delis on and off since high school) is on to something: After all, his sandwiches, made with Thumann’s meat and Gonnella bread, come with chips, not fries. And he offers a “sub-in-a-tub,” eliminating the bread altogether. Finally, the custom ice-cream flavor he developed with Bobtail suggests that the fashion crowd may not be who he’s courting.
