Black Dog Gelato

For years, Jessica Oloroso has worked 12 hours a day, six days a week to provide restaurants with what they couldn’t make any better themselves: gelato. Now she’s taken over the space once occupied by one of those clients—Piccolo, a panini-and-gelato shop. The former Scylla pastry chef threw out the panini (who needs breads and meats?) and has expanded the menu of sweets to include whiskey gelato dipped in chocolate and rolled in candied bacon; a cake of honey gelato, apricot preserves and toasted sunflower seeds; and four flavors of housemade soda. At least 12 flavors of gelato—including signatures like salted peanut—will be available in a cup, cone or hand-packed pints. But if you can’t get to the store, don’t freak—Black Dog will still be available in dining rooms like Sepia and Uncommon Ground. 859 N Damen Ave (773-235-3116).
