Easter Brunch Bunny

One lays eggs. One is annually associated with eggs. Makes no sense to us either. Anarchy!

Okay, but it is nearing Easter, which means it's time to dust off that tie and figure out where you're going to take Mom for Sunday brunch. We have a few options for you, and if you don't want to look like a rube showing up at noon requesting a table, make your reservations now.—Sarah Grainer and Kris Fedor

Big Jones: Along with the regular menu, guests can choose several specials including poached eggs atop artichoke bottoms with fried oysters, lemon hollandaise and grits and smoked ham with raisin sauce. Bar specials include the spring rose, a localvore cocktail. 9am–4pm.

The Bristol: This two-course prix-fixe menu offers a la carte sides for a customized Easter brunch. Choices include chiliquiles, duck confit reuben or the signature Bristol burger with breakfast potatoes. $21. 10am–5pm.

Brasserie Jo: If you want to keep your Easter meal classic, simple and European, head here for French-style brie omelets with mushrooms or crab cakes Benedectine en brioche. Kids will enjoy the supervised games and crafts for in The Salon. 11am–2:30pm.

Carnivale: Choose from special menu items like empanada gallega (asparagus, parmesan cheese, roasted peppers) and huevos en cazuela (eggs, chorizo, potatoes, manchego cheese). 11am–4pm.

Deleece: Along with the regular menu, special items like a lobster and bacon quiche with Dijon hollandaise ($13) and pear-brown-sugar-glazed ham ($14) will be offered. 10:30am–2:30pm.

Dunlays on Clark: This a la carte Easter brunch includes fruit pancakes, unique omelettes and several Dunlays favorites. Children get treated to an Easter egg hunt at 2pm. 10am–3pm.

42 N Latitude: Stuff yourself at this Easter brunch buffet on your choice of numerous dishes like smoked whitefish pate, a ham carving station and bacon, spinach and cheese frittatas. Includes a bottomless cup of joe and egg coloring for the young’uns. $19.95 adults, $6.95 children under 10. 9am–3pm.

Fulton’s on the River: This Easter Brunch staple features a carving station, omelette station, pasta station, crab-cake station and dessert station. Kids get their own station too. $42.95 adults, $15.95 children (under 6 free). 10am–7pm.

Gioco: This Italian Easter brunch includes macadamia-nut pancakes with orange zest ($10) and morel frittata with sweet pea ($16). 9am–3pm.

Goddess and the Grocer: If you’d rather Easter brunch came to you, get it catered or delivered by this specialty grocer and deli.  In addition to delicious meal options like French toast bananas Foster and a smoked salmon platter, they’ll also deliver cakes and Easter baskets full of mini cupcakes, sugar cookies and holiday candy. Prices vary. Orders must be placed by Wed April 8. 773-292-1700.

Hearty Boys: These brunch mavens offer Easter Sunday specials like orange blossom pancakes, herbed porridge with grilled ham, steak and fried eggs and a sweet pea, tarragon and chevre frittata. Wash it all down with rose Bellinis (Champagne and rosewater syrup). 9am–2pm.

Kit Kat Lounge: The four-course Dine Like a Diva prix-fixe menu includes poached eggs over Cajun crab cakes and Texas-style French toast with bourbon-glazed cherries. $29.95, 11am–3pm.

Odyssey Cruises: Enjoy a buffet brunch and live entertainment while viewing the Chicago skyline on the Odyssey Easter Brunch Cruise. $67.90 adults, children 1/2 price (under 3 free). 11am–2pm.

Old Town Brasserie: The OTB throws down with a three-course prix-fixe menu and live jazz. $29. The duo of roasted lamb leg and rack and the pistachio soufflé sound tres bien. 11am–3pm.

one sixtyblue: Nosh on a three-course Easter brunch ranging from slow-cooked pork belly with buttermilk biscuits and spicy sausage gravy to a king crab omelette with chives and crème fraiche. $35. 11am–2:30pm.

Petterino’s: Start out with a complimentary Bellini or mimosa and end with a slice of homemade pie. In between those you’ll choose from a variety of omelettes, signature items and classic Easter dishes. $29.95 adults, $12.95 children. 11am–2pm.

Prairie Grass Café: This warm, family-friendly Northbrook spot is offering a buffet brunch featuring crab cakes, waffles and made-to-order omelets. $35 adults; $15 children. 10am–2pm.

Quince: This three-course meal is especially family-friendly, featuring a separate menu for adults and children. Kids can happily nosh on macaroni and cheese and fresh pastries with housemade jam while grown-ups indulge in rabbit confit with arugula and d’anjou pear or their own playful meal of “Green Eggs N’ Ham”—a poached egg on an English muffin with Canadian bacon and grilled scallion. $35 adults; $20 children. 9:30 am–3pm.

Ritz-Carlton Cafe: Stick to breakfast classics like eggs Benedict and omelettes or snag some Easter fare like honey-glazed ham and roast prime rib with porcini mushroom crust. Children get their own buffet equipped with a cookie decorating station. $95 adults, $30 children. 10:30am, 1pm and 4pm.

Sepia:  Serving Easter brunch family style seems fitting. The meal starts off this way at Sepia, where guests can share strong openers such as white cheddar grits with laughing bird shrimp and tasso ham and housemade granola served with goat’s milk yogurt and fig compote. Then move on to a choice of entrees like grilled lamb loin with baby artichokes and salsa verde, or chickpea crepes with tomato jam. This communal holiday meal rounds out with family style sweets like a caramel mascarpone bread pudding, which should pair perfectly with coffee from Metropolis. $39 adults, $20 children. 10:30am–6pm.

Shaw’s Crab House: The Easter brunch buffet includes a make-your-own omelette and waffle station, carving station with beef tenderloin and turkey, cold seafood bar and a dessert table. $49.99 adults, $19.99 children (under 5 free). 10am–3pm.

Sixteen: If you’re looking for a lavish holiday meal, look no further. This swanky River North spot is pulling out all the stops for their elaborate brunch buffet that includes bacon and artichoke soup, veal loin with sweet onion jam and seared sea bass with blood orange salad and wilted mustard greens, to name a few. Made-to-order omelets and waffles will also be available. Kids get Easter baskets filled with candy, adults get chocolate bunnies. There’s also three egg hunts planned for the day. Of course, fancy Easter comes at a fancy price. $115 adults; $25 for children under 8. 10:30am–3pm.

Spirit of Chicago Cruise: This Easter Brunch cruise features a buffet, DJs and even an appearance by the Easter Bunny. $49.90 adults, children 1/2 price (under 3 free). Noon–2:30pm.

Tapas Valencia: New to the brunch scene, Tapas Valencia offers a brunch buffet with a prime-rib carving station, omelettes and desserts. $29.95 adults, $12.95 children (under 6 free). 10am–4pm.

Trader Vic’s: Celebrating spring holidays would be even better if the warm weather would come out and join us. If you want to pretend you’re in a faraway tropical paradise, have brunch at Trader Vic’s. Both an omelet and carving station are offered, as well as tropical fruit, all served with a complimentary Mai Tai or mimosa. Background island music is also complimentary. $37.95 adults; $20 children; free for children under 4.
