This century-old brownstone is a quintessential Chicago steakhouse in every sense of the word. Businessmen with fat expense wallets head upstairs for white-tablecloth service, pricey wines and 48- or 64-ounce porterhouses fit for a king. We prefer the subterranean piano bar, where every inch of wall is covered with vintage photos of Capone and crew and the high wooden tables are packed with storytellers and uncompromising carnivores.

Comments

The Chicago Chop House was recommended while in town for a week on business. What a huge disappointment!!! High prices were not a problem, but poor food IS! I ordered a Kobe steak, & in a blindfolded taste test could not have identified it as BEEF!! It happens, they don't raise the cattle, but to not offer something else OR take it off the check is amazingly poor customer service. Add that to the fact that when I placed my order l was asked if I wanted it "on the bone", & wasn't told there was a $30.00 difference in price!!! Stopped in for an after dinner drink at a nearby place, & casually asked the bartender & owner what they thought of the CCH, & they laughed! We were told that it was sold a year ago & the priced were raised & they heard lots of complaints! I should also mention the pretentiousness of requiring us to arrive at 6:45 or 7:15 when we asked for a 7:00 reservation!! I could also slam sides, but in general, go at your own risk!!!
