Shawn McClain’s moss-colored, minimalist house of Zen is the only upscale dining experience Chicago vegetarians can truly call their own. The menu’s classed-up brunch classics include German-style pancakes with Granny Smith apples and caramelized-banana crêpes with ricotta and Wisconsin honey. Chef de cuisine Jon DuBois’s superseasonal dinner menu is always in rotation. Depending on when you visit, you may find pappardelle with honey-roasted figs and fennel; sweet onion and garlic soup; and slow-roasted shitake mushrooms with crispy potato and savoy cabbage.
