Hemmingway’s Bistro

This traditional French bistro takes its name from the famous author (although it’s spelled with an extra m), whose birthplace is just up the street. Tucked into the 1920s-era Write Inn, this spot has little signage, making it difficult to find. But once you make your way in, the ambience is everything a hard-core francophile could want: stucco walls, cozy banquettes, soft lighting, French music and even esoteric gastronomic quotes on the menu. Chef Christopher C. Ala’s menu doesn’t push the envelope. However, bistro staples like escargot, roasted sea bass, cassoulet and beef Wellington are well executed. A budget-friendly wine list includes several selections by the glass.
