The Berghoff

After a brief stint as 17 West, the 100-year-old Berghoff has returned to its original name, but the regulars crowding the bar’s carving station for heaping corned beef sandwiches never blinked an eye. Technically, the legendary space is now owned by the next generation of Berghoffs, who, despite adding a few modern dishes to the menu (bacon-wrapped shrimp, pan-seared salmon in a maple-orange reduction), know enough to leave the famed formula alone: The bar still pours Berghoff beer and root beer, the kitchen still slings Wiener schnitzel, sauerbraten and the like, and the crowds still pack ‘em in.
