The Charlie’s Ale House space has gone through some rapid transformations. It initially reopened as a pub with two identities: a “Tap Room” with simple, casual comfort food (such as macaroni and cheese and excellently fried oysters), and across the hall, a dining room with more upscale American dishes. Now the owners have merged the two menus into one. Fortunately, no one has changed the great beer list, soothing Restoration Hardware–like paint job or experienced servers.
