At this gastropub from the folks behind the adjacent Fat Willy's, chef Charles Burkhardt's classic British comfort food is seemingly simple but deeply flavored: Welsh rarebit features melted cheddar deepened with Worcestershire and stout; massive haddock fillets are flown in fresh daily from New England waters and turned into ethereal fish and chips; and an excellent charcuterie plate features pork rillettes, velvety rabbit liver pâté and a fresh lamb sausage. A great beer program and Crystal Chiang’s inspired desserts are like every other aspect of Owen & Engine—they put you at ease, soothing a sort of primal nostalgia for the past, whether it’s yours or not.
