[title]Granville Summer Market Days
One of our favorite things about the summer (besides the weather) is the plethora of shopping markets. Head to Edgewater each weekend through August 21 for some one-stop shopping: Purchase antiques or jewelry, pick up baked goods and even sign up for yoga classes all at the same place. Participating stores include Akira, Brimfield and Roost. The market days are free, and you can shop till you drop in rain or shine. At the corner of Broadway and Granville Ave (edgewaterdev.org).
Broadway Antique Market
In a two-level building that houses about 75 antique dealers, Broadway Antique Market makes it easy to find something worth taking home. The market specializes in all things mission, Art Deco, midcentury mod, and ’60s and ’70s styles. Furniture and art is the main focus upstairs, while downstairs you’ll find a variety of lighting, home accessories, jewelry and more. BAM usually holds a couple of great sales each year (usually in May and December), when the vintage items become even more affordable. 6130 N Broadway (773-743-5444, bamchicago.com).
Edgewater Antique Mall
Compared to the Broadway Antique Market down the street, Edgewater Antique Mall is decidedly smaller. But less is more here. While you’ll find a smaller selection of furniture, the mall does offer “newer” items from the more recent decades of the 20th century. Third Coast Comics
After operating strictly as an online shop, Third Coast opened this brick-and-mortar location three years ago. The comic-book shop stocks new releases every Wednesday and often holds in-store events, such as a graphic-novel book club and wine nights. Night owl comic-book fans can take advantage of the shop’s monthly late-night hours, which take place until midnight the first Friday of each month. Stop by this week as Third Coast celebrates its third anniversary on Saturday 30 with an appearance by graphic novelist Sarah Becan, food and a 30-foot-tall art jam wall. 6234 N Broadway (847-863-7450, thirdcoastcomics.com).
Broadway Treasure Hunt
The newest antique shop to grace Edgewater opened its doors this year. As the life-size pirate and fake shark head indicate as they greet you at the door, this small store is all about cheeky items. Look for a large selection of vinyl, quirky figurines and even a few bikes. Much of the merch doesn’t come with price tags, so store clerks usually take a few minutes to check the price on Broadway Treasure Hunt’s eBay store.
