Maker's mark
Kathryn Kerrigan, shoe designer

What it is Kathryn Kerrigan, a Libertyville-based line of elegant and flirty shoes for ladies with plus-size feet—or as the company likes to refer to them, “women who stand tall.”
Who she is At six feet tall, Kerrigan (she goes by Katie) always found it nearly impossible to find good-looking shoes for her size-11 feet. Rather than wait around for a prince to appear with the perfect-size glass slipper, Kerrigan, fresh with an M.B.A. from Loyola University, decided to start her own company specializing in women’s sizes ten, 11 and 12. Kerrigan’s instincts were right on the money—the entire stock sold out within the company’s first six weeks of business.
What she makes Fashioned from high-quality leather, the shoes are intended for tall professionals. Pumps ($265–$474) range from strappy stilettos to open-toe wedges. Flats ($265) are sensible, but the selection still includes enough girly touches to dress up the feet. Kerrigan also offers boots ($451 and up) that vary from the practical (a relatively flat knee-high brown leather shoe with a buckle at the top) to pink cowboy boots. The line will expand within the year to include various widths, as well as a men’s collection.
Why we like it Every woman should have an equal opportunity to wear cute shoes. Just because someone may have sizable feet doesn’t mean she can’t look good. And Kerrigan’s designs are good.
