Marker's Mark

Tory Burch

What it is: An easy-chic lifestyle collection of sportswear, children’s swimwear, jewelry, bags and shoes.

Who she is: The Pennsylvania native and Manhattan socialite spent years working in fashion PR before designing her own eponymous line. In 2005, Oprah called her the next big designer, which changed the company overnight. “That was probably the pivotal point,” she says. “It was amazing for us.”

What she makes: Classic clothes with a bohemian edge. Her luxury collection includes patterned dresses ($295–$825) in silk twill, structured cotton and linens. This season, her popular ballet flats ($195–$225) are being knocked off, which Burch finds flattering—“unless it’s just outright exactly the same,” she clarifies. “Then I’ll have an issue.”

Why we like it: Burch says her line is Grace Kelly–meets–Edie Sedgwick cool, and that blend of elegance and artsiness works. Sure, her ladies-who-lunch lifestyle shows up in her twill and crocheted dresses, but you don’t need to be a socialite to take her low-key, high-style totes to Oak Street Beach.

Where to find it: Neiman Marcus (737 N Michigan Ave, 312-642-5900).—Kevin Aeh
