Small wonder

After years of thinking about starting her own little store, Kim Woodward finally worked up the courage to open Uri Boutique. “I was tired of seeing other people do it,” she says. “If they can do it, so can I. No more being a scaredy-cat.” Named for her five-year-old daughter (a minifashionista, according to Woodward), Uri caters to people who desire hard-to-find, yet basic pieces. The clean and intimate 800-square-foot space makes obtaining that simple, chic look, well, simple. Instead of having a lot of hit-or-miss items to choose from, the store stocks a well-edited collection of elegant must-have options. Standouts include the ivory Heike Jarick babydoll dress ($380) and the camel-and-black hobo bag by Gustto ($670)—all of which Woodward hand-picked herself. 1445 N Wells St between Schiller St and North Ave (312-475-9002).—Rachel Skybetter
