The need for tweed

In theory, there are sneakers on the market that can take you from a creative office environment to the corner bar, to the downtown club, even the dirty rock show—without once looking goofy or slavishly trendy. But in actuality, that shoe—both streety and snappy—is hard to find. Until now. We were happy to catch a glimpse of P.F. Flyers’ fall selections, which make use of luggage leather, Italian waxed canvas, paisley-tie prints and an unusual tweed (pictured here in Center High edition, a reissue of a 1950s model) to tune up the 70-year-old company’s seven men’s lines. They’ll smarten up your look in an understated manner without putting you in that awkward business-casual zone. $80, at zappos.com.
